today i went on a walk through of the tenderloin, led by the mayor's greening director and joined by the captain of tenderloin police station, the head of the sf department of public works, and the mayor's advisor on homelessness among others.at every corner we stopped and listed everything that can be done to better the area and prevent negative behavior. more lighting. tree trimming. graffiti cleaned up.
this building is an example of one way the mayor took the dark side of a brick building and brightened it up and beautified it. i knew this before, but this job makes it clear: it's not just a matter of things looking pretty - with each step we take to change this environment, we're contributing to the safety and well-being of the people in it...
